Organic Fruit & Veg College September 2016 - June 2017
A part time course once a week and I am loving it. I also received a student card ‘Yippy Y oh’ and I use it to get discounts. I ask in every shop now, I even asked a sales person in Oxfam once; hmmm, probably a step too far I think!
I am also using a 12ft x 4ft green patch outside my flat, to turn into a Fruit & Veg garden; I will be keeping you updated on my progress. Remember the saying ‘We are what we eat’, so, I would like to research this and start eating foods without pesticides. The college takes us to a farm once a month, with this same ethos. One thing I would love to set up one day is a small farm, fully organic, for people who just want to ‘know and learn’ about what they eat.
See pictures in gallery for transformation from September 2016 - September 2017. I grew various herbs; rosemary, sage, thyme, coriander, parsley & mint, not forgetting chilies; all used for my cooking. I had yields of celery, kale & lots of cherry tomatoes, even some strawberries.
November 2017 - This year change of plan. Higher beds (because of pests ) which I acquired for free from across the road; packaging from some ones delivery. Having the same herbs but this time more fruit, raspberries, strawberries & blueberries & tomatoes. The fragrant & meadow plants including lavender, French marigold. Also going to start a compost bin.
